The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday, September 3, 2026, confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Ayomide Kamula in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman at her residence in Odo-Idi Sale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

The alleged incident occurred on August 30, while the victim was at her residence, according to the police.

The command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

Oluborode said the investigation began after the victim’s mother formally reported the matter at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division at about 10:10am on Tuesday.

Following the report, police officers visited the location and secured the scene while the victim was taken to a General Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Police subsequently arrested Kamula, who is being questioned in connection with the allegations.

An alleged accomplice, identified by the police as Boye Balogun, remains at large.

“Kamula is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation, while intelligence-led efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” Oluborode said.

The police said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The transfer is expected to allow investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the allegation, gather relevant evidence and establish the roles, if any, of the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged incident and reaffirmed the command’s position against sexual and gender-based violence.

Ojajuni also assured the victim’s family that the police would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought before the law.

The commissioner urged members of the public with credible information about Balogun’s whereabouts to contact the police and assist investigators in securing his arrest.

The alleged case comes amid continued concerns about sexual and gender-based violence and the need for effective investigations and support for survivors.

Police authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the alleged attack, while the suspect in custody remains entitled to due process as the investigation continues.
