Destiny Boy death prompts police action as Ogun Command arrests a suspect and opens a homicide investigation
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect following the death of popular young Fuji musician Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy, who died in Ijebu Ode at the age of 22.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, announcing that a full scale investigation has commenced into the Destiny Boy death.
According to the statement, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta, where the Homicide Section is handling further inquiries.
Police confirmed that one suspect is currently in custody as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the suspect has also been moved to the SCID’s Homicide Section, adding that investigations remain ongoing and no conclusions have yet been reached.
Destiny Boy reportedly died on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Ijebu Ode. While authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of death, reports from eyewitnesses and individuals close to the late musician suggest that he had been battling health challenges shortly before his passing.
Some accounts claimed that the singer experienced severe symptoms, including vomiting blood, in the hours leading up to his death.
Videos circulating on social media showing his lifeless body being conveyed have intensified public concern and speculation.
Unverified claims have also emerged online, including assertions by a family member that the artist may have been poisoned, as well as social media allegations involving a herbalist.
The police, however, stressed that none of these claims has been substantiated by medical findings or official investigations.
The Destiny Boy death has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s music community, particularly among young Fuji and Afrofuji fans.
The artist rose to prominence through his energetic performances, creative covers and original songs that fused traditional Fuji rhythms with modern sounds, earning him a growing and devoted following.
