His brother, Enahoro Peter, confirmed that the journalist was attacked on August 18, 2025, in the Molete area of Ibadan by suspected armed robbers.

According to eyewitnesses, Ojo was targeted despite pleading that the bag he carried contained no money. He was shot in the back and robbed of his belongings.

The attackers also destroyed his phone, making it impossible for his family to immediately reach out to colleagues.

Enahoro explained that it was only after the phone was repaired on September 8 that they could inform close associates.

The Oyo State Police Command’s Orita Challenge Division later contacted the family following the fatal incident.

Ojo Mogbadewa Peter was a respected figure in Nigerian journalism, with a career that spanned Nigerian Tribune, ParrotXtra Magazine/PMParrot.com, and Daily Monitor.

Known for his vibrant personality and deep knowledge of the media landscape, he was fondly described as a “man-about-town.”

ParrotXtra Media Network, alongside the Oyo State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), has joined family and friends in mourning his untimely loss.
