The Ogun State Police Command has reported a devastating incident involving a 400-level female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ago-Iwoye.

The student, identified as Adaeze Jaja, allegedly committed suicide in a hotel room, casting a shadow of grief over the community.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, told reporters in Abeokuta on Tuesday, verifying the unfortunate event. Odutola said that the 31-year-old student was found unconscious and frothing at the mouth in the hotel room. Beside her was an empty container of the deadly insecticide Sniper.

On January 27 at 7:30 am, the event was initially reported to the Divisional Police Officer of the Ago-Iwoye Division. The police were notified of the situation by Oduniyi Adelaja, the director of the Be-Happy Hotel. Adelaja was notified of the upsetting finding by Adebayo Israel, a hotel employee.

Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officers promptly visited the scene of the incident. They recovered the empty bottle of Sniper and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adaeze Jaja’s death. The body of the deceased was subsequently transported to the OOU Teaching Hospital mortuary for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
