Oluremi Tinubu urges strong support for disability inclusion

Oluremi Tinubu calls for stronger disability inclusion in Nigeria as she marks the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Wednesday called for deeper national commitment to disability inclusion in Nigeria, stressing that persons with disabilities must be supported to live independently and participate fully in the country’s social and economic life.

Senator Tinubu made the appeal in her message marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

She said a society can only claim to be truly inclusive when every citizen, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, is given the chance to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.

She noted that Nigeria’s progress depends on guaranteeing equal access, protection and empowerment for all citizens, adding that governments, institutions and communities must strengthen policies that promote accessibility, social inclusion and dignity.

The annual observance, themed Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress, served as a call for renewed efforts to remove long-standing barriers faced by persons with disabilities.

Senator Tinubu said the theme reinforces the country’s responsibility to expand opportunities and uphold social justice.

She emphasised that inclusion is not an act of charity but a vital pillar of sustainable development and national cohesion.

She described it as a collective duty that demands consistent action, compassion and a deliberate push for fairness.

Senator Tinubu also extended her solidarity to millions of Nigerians living with disabilities, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ongoing advocacy and programmes designed to advance their rights and welfare.
