Ondo approves federal salary structure to improve healthcare pay, boost morale and address manpower shortages under Governor Aiyedatiwa

Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the implementation of the reviewed federal salary structure for medical officers and other health workers across Ondo State, Nigeria, in a policy decision announced in Akure on Wednesday aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving workforce motivation.

The approval, which aligns with the Ondo approves federal salary structure agenda, was disclosed by the State Head of Service, Bayo Philip, during an annual get-together and send-off ceremony for retired permanent secretaries and tutors-general held in Akure.

Philip said the decision is designed to enhance morale among health workers and significantly improve productivity across public health institutions in the state.

He added that the administration is also expanding recruitment efforts to address longstanding manpower shortages in hospitals.

According to him, the state government has already recruited about 5,000 new workers across various sectors, a move he described as part of a broader reform to improve service delivery.

He also confirmed that retirement benefits for former permanent secretaries are now being processed without delay, signalling what he called a more responsive administrative system.

In a notable highlight of the event, Philip revealed that accommodation support has been approved for around 150 retired graduate headmasters whose welfare cases had remained unresolved since 2009, with some beneficiaries having died while awaiting assistance.

The disclosure added an emotional dimension to the proceedings, underscoring the human cost of administrative delays.

The Head of Service further urged retired permanent secretaries to continue contributing to governance through mentorship and advisory roles, describing their experience as a valuable asset to ongoing reforms in the state civil service.

Naija News reported that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the state government to reposition public service delivery and strengthen institutional capacity across key sectors.
