Ondo police arrest murder rape suspect after 21-year-old allegedly killed elderly woman in Akoko community, triggering shock and tension
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspect over the alleged rape and murder of an elderly woman, Veronica Anthony, in Iboropa-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Ondo police arrest murder rape suspect case has thrown the community into shock following the discovery of the crime, which reportedly occurred before the suspect was tracked and apprehended through the victim’s missing mobile phone.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Abayomi confirmed the arrest, stating that detectives launched an investigation immediately after the incident was reported and successfully traced the deceased’s phone, leading to the suspect’s capture.
The suspect, identified as Anthony Alabi, is currently in police custody and has allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, according to the police statement.
The development sparked tension in the community as angry youths attempted to carry out jungle justice, but security operatives intervened to prevent further escalation and restored order.
Authorities confirmed that the case has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Akure for further discreet investigation and prosecution.
