Ogun State police dismantle Cameroonian kidnap ring

Ondo Police arrest students over an alleged AAUA rape case, with investigators recovering exhibits and launching further inquiry into the incident

The Ondo Police has arrested students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, over an alleged conspiracy and rape of a 20-year-old female undergraduate, the state command announced on Monday.

The incident, described by authorities as deeply disturbing, began when the victim was invited to the residence of her secondary school mate, who is also a student of the institution.

Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade said the victim trusted the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Queen Sodo, due to their long-standing friendship.

Upon arrival, the victim was allegedly offered a drink laced with drugs, causing her to lose consciousness.

Ayanlade revealed that Sodo then reportedly summoned a male accomplice and kept watch while the assault was carried out.

The incident came to light when a neighbour heard unusual noise and intervened, ultimately rescuing the incapacitated victim.

She was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention while the suspects were arrested at the scene.

According to the police, both suspects have confessed to their roles in the crime.

Investigators recovered key exhibits, including the bottle containing the drug-laced drink, which is expected to undergo toxicology testing. The items were identified by both the victim and the suspects.

The arrested individuals are currently in lawful custody.

The command has begun arrangements to transfer the case to the Gender Desk Office in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.

Ayanlade urged parents and guardians to warn their children about exercising caution in friendships and social interactions, stressing that the command will remain firm in its pursuit of justice.

The development comes weeks after operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Adegbola, linked to multiple cases of rape, assault, and armed robbery involving female passengers across Lagos.
