OpenAI ChatGPT ads testing to begin on free and Go tiers, with assurances that responses remain unbiased and user data protected

OpenAI has announced plans to begin testing advertisements on the free and Go tiers of ChatGPT in the coming weeks, marking a significant shift in how the artificial intelligence platform will be monetised while maintaining user trust.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement shared on OpenAI’s official X account, where the company said the move is guided by principles of transparency and accessibility as it seeks to expand the reach of Artificial Intelligence.

OpenAI stressed that advertising would not influence responses generated by ChatGPT and would remain clearly separated from user conversations.

“Responses in ChatGPT will not be influenced by ads. Ads are always separate and clearly labelled. Your conversations are private from advertisers,” the company said.

The firm added that paid subscription tiers, including Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, will remain completely ad-free, ensuring uninterrupted access for professional and corporate users.

According to OpenAI, the decision to communicate its approach ahead of the rollout is intended to reassure users and clarify how advertising will function as testing begins.

The company said safeguarding privacy and preserving the integrity of AI-generated responses remain central to its strategy.

The move comes as technology companies increasingly explore sustainable revenue models amid growing demand for AI-powered tools, with OpenAI positioning the limited ad rollout as a balanced step towards broader accessibility without compromising trust.
