Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel has praised security agencies and thanked Ogun residents following the successful rescue of former Ogun lawmaker Maruf Musa after his abduction in Ogun Waterside

Former Ogun State governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of former Ogun State lawmaker, Hon. Maruf Musa, who was abducted in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

Hon. Musa, a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, was kidnapped on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, while praying at about 8.00 pm in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside. He regained his freedom after spending about three days in captivity.

In a statement issued after the rescue, Senator Daniel expressed profound gratitude to God for the safe return of the former legislator, describing the development as a moment of relief for his family, friends and supporters across Ogun State.

He praised the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, as well as the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and Director of the DSS, for what he described as their professionalism, dedication and coordinated intelligence driven operations that led to the successful rescue.

According to him, the swift response and collaboration among the security agencies once again demonstrated their commitment to the protection of lives and property.

Senator Daniel also thanked the people of Ogun State, particularly residents of Ogun East Senatorial District, for their prayers, concern and moral support during what he described as a trying and emotionally draining period.

“The collective show of love, solidarity and faith was deeply moving and stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of our people,” he said.

Reflecting on the incident, the senator noted that the abduction was a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for sustained collective action against insecurity. He added that the safe return of Hon. Musa had renewed hope and confidence that unity, prayer and professional security engagement could overcome criminality.

Senator Daniel also offered prayers for the complete physical, emotional and psychological healing of Hon. Musa and his family, while reassuring the people of Ogun East and the state at large of his continued commitment to initiatives and collaborations aimed at promoting safety, peace and the wellbeing of citizens.

He concluded by thanking Ogun residents for standing together, praying and believing throughout the period of uncertainty surrounding the abduction.
