Ikenga Ugochinyere expelled from PDP

The PDP has expelled Ikenga Ugochinyere over allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities, citing breaches of its constitution.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the representative for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State and spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

The expulsion, effective immediately, follows charges of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.

The expulsion was formalised in a letter dated December 5, 2024, signed by the LGA Chairman, ThankGod Okeke, and Secretary, Onyebuchi Umeh.

The statement explained that the disciplinary action against Ugochinyere followed a report from the party’s disciplinary committee dated November 27, 2024.

This report, prepared in line with Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP constitution (2017 as amended), detailed misconduct charges against the lawmaker.

Ugochinyere had earlier been suspended on October 14, 2024, by the Umuopia/Umukegwu ward executive after failing to honour invitations for a disciplinary hearing.

Despite repeated reminders, the lawmaker did not respond, prompting the LGA executive to act decisively.

Violations Cited in Expulsion

The PDP listed several breaches of its constitution in justifying Ugochinyere’s expulsion:

  • Non-Participation: Failure to attend meetings and engage in party activities, contravening Section 58 (1)(e).
  • Unapproved Publicity: Engaging in unauthorised publicity of internal disputes, violating Section 58 (1)(i).
  • Parallel Structures: Creating parallel party organs at ward, LGA, and national levels.
  • Provocative Statements: Making derogatory remarks about the party and its leaders, bringing the PDP into disrepute.

The letter stated, “The LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North unanimously adopted the disciplinary committee’s report on December 5, 2024. Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the PDP and ceases to be a member of the party in the Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA.”

Efforts to reach Ugochinyere for his comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
