Peller opens up on four days without food in police cell

Nigerian TikToker and streamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has revealed details of his four-day detention in a Lagos police cell, saying he struggled through the period without eating or bathing.

The 21-year-old content creator shared his experience after being released from custody, following his arrest in the Lekki area of Lagos over an alleged confrontation with police officers involving a tinted vehicle without a number plate.

Peller recounted his experience on Snapchat, describing the detention as one of the most difficult moments he had faced.

“I am ugly now, I can’t show my face yet. Omo, I slept in cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life o,” he wrote.

The streamer said other inmates recognised him during his time in custody and jokingly called him “001”.

He also claimed that he went without food and water for most of his detention.

“I no chop for four good days, I no bath,” Peller said.

Following the experience, Peller said he had become more careful about avoiding situations that could lead to trouble, adding that he was focused on his upcoming wedding and personal plans.

“Nah my wedding dey my mind. Nah to dey waka jeje after wedding japa,” he added.

Peller’s arrest followed a viral video in which he accused police officers of harassment, alleging that officers pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at him before taking him into custody.

He maintained that he had recently bought the vehicle involved in the incident.

The TikToker was later arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court alongside Bello Oladipo on three counts bordering on alleged obstruction of police officers, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The court granted Peller bail of ₦500,000, bringing his four-day detention to an end.

The incident has renewed conversations around police conduct, citizens’ rights during arrests and the treatment of suspects in custody.
