The Nigeria Police Force in Calabar and the state security adviser to Governor Ben Ayade has confirmed the killing of former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Odukpani LGA, Mr. Ekpenyong Okon.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, said a report over the killing was received and the Police have been on the trail of the suspected killers.

The former chairman was shot yesterday by suspected cultists on an alleged revenge mission.

The State Security Adviser to Governor Ayade, Mr. Ani Esin also confirmed the incident, lamenting that he may have been killed by a rival cult group.

Okon was allegedly murdered at a drinking joint along with Akai Efa in Calabar Municipal Council of the State.

“The victim was a former chapter chairman of PDP in Odukpani. He was murdered yesterday at about 8 pm.

“He was shot and he died on the spot. He was suspected to be a member of Klanz and was gunned down by suspected rival members of Axe. The cults operation is not only in Calabar but in Bakassi, Odukpani, and its environs” he said.

No fewer than nine suspected cultists have been reported killed between April and May 2020 in Calabar.
