Queen Camilla reveals she was assaulted at age 16 and fought off the attacker with her shoe on a train to Paddington Station

Queen Camilla has revealed a deeply personal and harrowing experience from her teenage years, sharing how she fought off an attempted assault at the age of 16.

The incident was disclosed in Power and the Palace, a new book by Valentine Low, a former Royal Editor of The Times. The future queen was reportedly traveling on a train to Paddington Station when a man began to touch her inappropriately.

Displaying quick thinking and courage, Queen Camilla removed her shoe and struck the man with the heel, successfully defending herself. The attacker was later arrested following the report of the incident.

This brave moment from her youth was also referenced during a speech she gave in 2020, where she addressed issues of coercive control and domestic violence.

“Through my work, I have talked to many women who have lived with coercive control and domestic violence — and thankfully, come out at the other end as the victors, not the victims,” Queen Camilla said. “Their stories are harrowing… That is why it is so vital that these survivors should no longer feel any shame or any blame.”

Queen Camilla’s powerful recollection adds to her growing voice in advocacy for survivors of abuse, further underlining her commitment to using her platform to foster awareness and change.
