Rangers International have petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged stadium vandalism and disorder following their 2-0 victory over MC Alger in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second-round qualifying tie in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Enugu-based club said it had formally reported the incidents to the continental football governing body after Sunday’s encounter at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, where visiting supporters allegedly damaged stadium facilities and engaged in other acts of disorder.

In a statement published on the club’s Facebook page on Monday, Rangers said its petition raised concerns over the reported destruction of an entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees and the vandalisation of stadium seats.
The club also called on CAF to consider appropriate precautionary measures ahead of the return fixture scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, in Algiers, Algeria.
“Rangers International FC, Enugu, confirms that it has formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents involving visiting supporters during and after our CAF Champions League fixture against MC Alger at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on Sunday, 18 October 2026,” the statement read.
Rangers said it was seeking urgent intervention from CAF and expressed confidence in the governing body’s established procedures, adding that it was awaiting a response to its petition.
The club also reaffirmed its commitment to fair play, football regulations and the safety of players, officials, supporters and other stakeholders.
“We thank our supporters for their continued loyalty and urge everyone to remain calm, disciplined and focused as the Club prepares for the return leg,” Rangers added.
The reported incidents followed Rangers’ 2-0 victory over the Algerian side, giving the Nigerian club an advantage heading into the second leg.
However, the allegations of vandalism and disorder have raised concerns about security and crowd management ahead of the return encounter.
Rangers’ allegations have not, in the supplied report, been accompanied by a response from MC Alger or an official ruling from CAF.

The claims therefore remain allegations pending any independent findings or disciplinary action by the governing body.
