The 21-year-old Levante striker has signed a five-year deal with the European giants as Jose Mourinho reshapes the squad after two trophyless seasons

Real Madrid have made a bold move in their summer rebuild by signing 21-year-old Levante striker Carlos Espi on a five-year contract, with the Spanish giants reportedly paying €25 million for the highly rated forward.

The record 15-time European champions confirmed on Thursday that Espi would remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 30, 2031, ending growing speculation over his future after interest from several Premier League clubs.

Espi’s arrival represents another significant step in Real Madrid’s efforts to refresh their squad under new manager Jose Mourinho, who has been brought in to replace Alvaro Arbeloa following two consecutive seasons without a major trophy.

The young striker enjoyed a promising campaign with Levante last season, scoring 11 goals in 25 La Liga appearances and emerging as one of the division’s forwards to watch.

Real Madrid confirmed the move in a brief statement, saying: “(Espi) will join our club for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2031.”

The reported €25 million agreement reflects Madrid’s confidence in Espi’s potential as the club looks to build a new generation of attacking talent.

His signing also comes amid uncertainty over the future of Gonzalo Garcia, who is reportedly attracting interest from Fulham and could leave the Spanish capital.

Espi is understood to be the fifth major addition to Madrid’s squad this summer, following the reported arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.

The Spanish giants are also believed to have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig’s Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, while Manchester City midfielder Rodri has emerged as another reported target.

The growing activity reflects Mourinho’s determination to oversee a sweeping transformation at the club after a disappointing period by Madrid’s traditionally high standards.

For Espi, the move represents a remarkable rise from his breakthrough season at Levante to the pressure and expectation of playing for one of the world’s most decorated clubs.

The 21-year-old now faces the challenge of competing for a place in a star-studded squad while adapting to the demands of a club where domestic and European success is considered the minimum expectation.

With Mourinho at the helm and a number of new faces arriving, Real Madrid’s summer overhaul is gathering pace.

Espi’s signing could prove to be one of the most intriguing pieces of a rebuild designed to restore the club’s dominance and end a trophy drought that has now lasted two seasons.
