Real Madrid have confirmed the Konate signing, bringing the Liverpool defender to the Santiago Bernabeu on a free four-year deal until 2030, strengthening their defence under Jose Mourinho this summer
In Madrid, Spain, on Thursday 18 June 2026, Real Madrid confirmed the arrival of French international defender Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a free transfer, signing the 27-year-old centre-back to a four-year contract until 30 June 2030.

Los Blancos announced that they had reached full agreement with the player, who becomes the latest high-profile reinforcement for the club as it seeks to end two consecutive seasons without a major trophy.
Konate moved to Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and went on to make 183 appearances for the Merseyside club.
During his time at Anfield he won the Premier League title in 2025, the FA Cup in 2022 and additional domestic honours.
The powerful defender, currently representing France at the 2026 World Cup, joins a Real Madrid squad already transformed this summer.
Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho returned for a second spell as head coach earlier in June, while the club secured Spain left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Real Madrid have also renewed the contract of Germany centre-back Antonio Rudiger until 2027 following the departures of Dani Carvajal and David Alaba at the end of their deals.

Links persist with Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries as the club continues its defensive and midfield refresh.
The move represents another piece of business for a club known for acquiring elite talent on free transfers in recent years.
Konate’s arrival adds pace, aerial dominance and physical presence to the backline alongside Rudiger and Eder Militao.
This latest signing forms part of Real Madrid’s summer strategy to restore their competitive edge both domestically and in Europe.

With several key pieces now in place, attention turns to how quickly the revamped squad can gel under Mourinho’s leadership.
