On Wednesday, 4 November 2026, Real Madrid reached a verbal agreement with 16-year-old forward Joseph Junior Andreou O’Cearuill, known as JJ Gabriel, over a potential move from Manchester United, according to multiple reports.
The English teenager, born in Enfield on 6 October 2010, has not trained with United since requesting the cancellation of his academy registration in September.

He had been expected to make his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Brighton but instead began training independently in Spain while exploring options at other clubs.
Real Madrid, managed by José Mourinho, emerged as the clear favourites ahead of interest from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
JJ Gabriel joined Manchester United’s academy in 2022 after spells at several London clubs. Despite being only 14 at the start of the previous campaign, he was named the Premier League Under-18 player of the season and later scored a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut.
A United source had earlier described him as “the best 15-year-old in Europe,” while former interim manager Darren Fletcher said “the world is his oyster.” He holds a European Union passport through family ties, which is expected to ease any international transfer once he is eligible.
United head coach Michael Carrick addressed the situation carefully after the Brighton match. “We’ve got to be really careful of the whole situation.
He’s a young boy. He’s 15 and, for me definitely, and from a club point of view, looking after our younger players – their welfare, their well-being, their exposure – we’ve got to be really conscious of that in this situation,” Carrick said.
Manchester United would be entitled to compensation if the deal is completed, though the amount is expected to be lower for a move outside the Premier League.
Reports indicate the agreement is not yet formal and that no direct club-to-club talks have taken place.
Real Madrid plan for the player to join in January 2027, most likely beginning with their second team, Castilla.
Gabriel has been training in the Spanish capital in recent days as the parties work towards finalising terms. Other clubs remain attentive, but Madrid are widely viewed as leading the race.
The potential transfer highlights the intense competition for young talent and the challenges clubs face in managing highly rated teenagers who seek earlier first-team pathways.
For Real Madrid, securing a player of JJ Gabriel’s promise would add another high-profile prospect to their youth ranks at a time when the club continues to blend established stars with long-term development.
United, meanwhile, face the loss of one of their most exciting academy products just months after he had been integrated into first-team training.

Any formal move will still require FIFA approval and agreement on compensation. Until those steps are completed, the situation remains fluid, even as momentum builds toward a January switch.
