First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was conferred with the traditional title of Oso Di Eme I of Imo State during an official visit, marking a significant cultural recognition of her role in national leadership.

The honour was disclosed on Wednesday by the Senior Special Adviser to the First Lady on Media, Busola Kukoyi, who shared details and photographs of the ceremony.

The title, translated as “She who supports her husband,” reflects Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s perceived role alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in governance.

Busola Kukoyi described the recognition as a tribute to the First Lady’s commitment and partnership in public service.

“A worthy partner of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As he’s working, she is working,” Busola Kukoyi said.

Photographs from the ceremony showed Senator Oluremi Tinubu in elaborate traditional attire, featuring symbolic colours associated with the All Progressives Congress and motifs reflecting national identity.

She was seen wearing a red headwrap with coral beads, holding a ceremonial fan inscribed “OSO DI EME” and a horsetail flywhisk, underscoring the cultural significance of the moment.

The conferment forms part of a broader pattern of traditional honours bestowed on the First Lady in recent months.

In June 2026, Senator Oluremi Tinubu received the title “Ugosimba I of Enugu,” meaning “Jewel of Empowerment,” in recognition of her advocacy for women’s empowerment and social development initiatives across Nigeria.

Observers note that such titles, while largely ceremonial, often carry social and cultural weight, reflecting endorsement from traditional institutions and communities.

The Remi Tinubu Imo title adds to her growing list of honours and highlights the continued engagement between political leadership and traditional authorities.

The visit to Imo State also provided an opportunity for interaction with local traditional rulers and community leaders, reinforcing ties between federal leadership and grassroots institutions.

While the ceremony remained largely symbolic, it served as a powerful expression of cultural appreciation and political solidarity, illustrating how traditional recognition continues to play a role in Nigeria’s modern governance landscape.
