Rite Foods reaffirms strong commitment to clean energy

Rite Foods reiterates its clean energy commitment as it marks International Clean Energy Day, with 95% of its energy mix from gas and solar

Rite Foods Limited, Nigeria’s leading food and beverage manufacturer, has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and the adoption of clean energy as the world marks the 2026 International Clean Energy Day, themed Clean Energy for People and Planet.

The company said the initiative reflects its long-standing strategy of integrating cleaner and more efficient energy solutions into its manufacturing operations while delivering high-quality products to millions of consumers nationwide.

As part of activities to commemorate the global observance, Rite Foods announced plans to host an interactive stakeholder forum on Friday, January 30, 2026, aimed at advancing conversations around renewable energy adoption within Nigeria’s fast-moving consumer goods sector.

The session is expected to bring together energy experts, government officials, regulators and sustainability advocates to examine practical pathways for accelerating clean energy use in industrial operations across West Africa.

Speaking on the company’s sustainability vision, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Rite Foods Limited, described clean energy as a strategic necessity rather than a symbolic gesture.

“At Rite Foods, clean energy is a strategic business imperative,” Eze said.

“We recognise the realities of industrial operations in Nigeria while deliberately pursuing cleaner, more efficient and resilient energy solutions that support sustainability and business continuity.”

Rite Foods disclosed that 95 per cent of its energy mix is sourced from cleaner options, with natural gas and solar power forming the backbone of its operations, while diesel accounts for only five per cent.

The company said this approach has significantly reduced its carbon footprint across its manufacturing facilities.

The General Manager, Operations, Femi Ajileye, said the company’s production systems are designed to maximise energy efficiency without compromising quality or output.

“Our production systems are optimised to reduce energy losses while maintaining the highest quality standards,” Ajileye said.

“We leverage cleaner energy sources and automated production lines to ensure consistency, efficiency and environmental responsibility.”

Beyond energy sourcing, the company said it has assumed a disciplined approach to energy management, maintaining a low energy intensity per unit of production compared with industry benchmarks.

This efficiency, driven by sustained investment in modern equipment and continuous process optimisation, has strengthened cost control and enhanced operational competitiveness.

Rite Foods’ sustainability efforts have earned it several industry recognitions, including Outstanding FMCG Corporate Brand of the Year at the Edge Awards and multiple honours at the Sustainability, Innovation and Social Impact Awards and the SERAS.

The company said its clean energy strategy reflects a broader commitment to responsible growth, innovation and environmental stewardship, positioning the brand as a resilient and forward-looking player in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
