Okocha stated that Governor Fubara has, to date, shown no demonstrable commitment to peace or political healing in the state.
Okocha’s comments come amidst ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, which intensified after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency and suspended Fubara in March 2025.
The APC chairman also dismissed recent reports suggesting a possible defection by Governor Fubara to the APC, unequivocally stating that such a move would not shield him from accountability or the impeachment process.
“His sins cannot be forgiven because he came to our party,” Okocha declared, stressing that Fubara would still need to follow due process if he intended to join the APC.
Former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has also previously criticised Fubara for his perceived lack of effort in pursuing reconciliation.

The consistent call for “genuine reconciliation” from key political figures within the state’s power structure suggests that this remains the primary condition for resolving the ongoing political deadlock and the looming Fubara Impeachment Condition.
