Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal forward and captain, has reportedly made his return to the national team conditional on Jorge Jesus no longer being in charge, following a damaging fallout between the 41-year-old striker and the head coach.
Ronaldo reportedly left Portugal’s training camp ahead of the country’s UEFA Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Norway after being left on the bench for the full 90 minutes against Croatia.

According to CNN Portugal, Ronaldo has made it clear that he would only consider returning to the national team once Jesus is no longer the head coach.
The development adds another twist to an increasingly tense relationship between the Portugal captain and Jesus, with the dispute now threatening to overshadow preparations for the national team’s upcoming fixtures.
Ronaldo has since returned to Saudi Arabia, where he is continuing his club career with Al Nassr.
The decision to leave the national team setup followed his omission from the starting line-up against Croatia and subsequent frustration over being unused throughout the match.
Ronaldo remains one of Portugal’s most influential players and has played a central role in the country’s international success over the years.
His continued involvement with the national side has also been closely followed as he moves deeper into the latter stages of his career.
The reported condition creates uncertainty over his immediate international future, particularly with Portugal balancing the experience of one of its greatest-ever players against the authority of a head coach responsible for team selection.
Jesus, meanwhile, faces the challenge of managing the situation without allowing the dispute to destabilise the squad.
The reported breakdown between the two men appears serious, with CNN Portugal suggesting that their relationship has reached a point that could make reconciliation difficult while Jesus remains in charge.
For Portugal, the situation presents a significant dilemma.
Ronaldo’s absence would remove an experienced attacking option and a major dressing-room presence, while changing the coach solely to facilitate his return could create a different set of sporting and leadership questions.

As the national team moves towards its next competitive commitments, attention will now centre on whether the Portuguese Football Federation can resolve the dispute or whether Ronaldo’s reported condition will keep the veteran forward away from international football.
