The Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic has completed the upgrade of Ilasa Primary Health Centre, transforming it into a fully equipped 24-hour facility to serve thousands of residents in Lagos

Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic has successfully completed the upgrade of Ilasa Primary Health Centre, marking the third facility renovated under its Primary Health Care Renovation Project.

The project, which was commissioned during the tenure of Rotary President Rtn. Makunjola Famoriti (2026-2027), was initiated under the leadership of immediate past President Rtn. Abhishek Srivastava (2025-2026). It reflects the club’s strong commitment to continuity and sustainable community service.

The intervention followed a request from the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Anne Okonma, who highlighted the urgent need for medical equipment, furniture, and functional infrastructure despite structural renovations already carried out by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board.

Following a thorough needs assessment, the Rotary Club approved the adoption and comprehensive upgrade of the facility.

The project was executed in just three weeks (8–29 May 2026) with generous support from key partners including Tolaram Group, Telenoetica, and Lagos Health District VI. The total value of the project was approximately ₦25 million, with ₦10.73 million contributed by the Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic.

The upgraded centre is now better equipped to deliver quality, patient-centred care 24 hours a day, with a strong focus on maternal, newborn and child health, disease prevention, and emergency response.

It is expected to benefit over 5,000 residents monthly from Ilasa and neighbouring communities, including pregnant women, nursing mothers, children, adolescents, and the elderly.

Speaking at the commissioning, Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic President Rtn. Makunjola Famoriti said: “I am an engineer by profession, but a Rotarian at heart. The greatest investment you can make in yourself is serving humanity. That is why we are here today. Beyond this project, we are also committed to environmental sustainability, and I can see this place needs greater attention. I will ensure that a solar power system is installed here as soon as possible.”

A representative of the mothers at the centre, Salami Balqeez, expressed appreciation: “On behalf of all the mothers, we sincerely appreciate the Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic for this wonderful intervention. They have done an excellent job by providing us with a conducive environment and well-equipped facilities. We are truly grateful for their kindness and support.”

One of the doctors at the facility added: “I know Rotary for who they are. They have always been there whenever we call on them. With these improved facilities and equipment, we as doctors can now work more effectively and provide better care for our patients. I am truly impressed by Rotary’s commitment to service, and I am willing to become a member of the Rotary Club as well.”

Rotarian Shakir Sadiq Adeola, Vice Chairman of Isolo LCDA, pledged support: “I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic for this remarkable intervention. I assure you that we will also play our part in supporting and sustaining this initiative. Today, I was officially inducted as a Rotarian, and I am delighted to become part of this great organisation. Rotary has done an outstanding job, and I am proud to be associated with its mission of service above self.”

This initiative reinforces the power of strategic collaboration between Rotary, government, and the private sector in advancing Universal Health Coverage and bringing quality healthcare closer to the people.
