In a significant move to enhance collaboration between the legislative and defense sectors, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, has led a delegation on an oversight visit to the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Lagos on Monday, November 20.

The Western Naval Command HQ, strategically located in Apapa, Lagos, holds jurisdiction over the nation’s sea and coastal areas, extending from the Nigeria/Benin border to Long 002o 49′ E to Long 006o E in Delta State. Covering the nation’s coastline to the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) limit, the command plays a pivotal role in safeguarding maritime security.
The delegation, comprised of committee members, and the press, embarked on this crucial visit to assess the operations, challenges, and achievements of the Nigerian Navy, aiming to strengthen the synergy between the legislative and defense realms.
During interactive sessions, the committee sought to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Navy’s needs, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s naval operations.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Navy Training School, NAVTRAC, and the Naval Dockyard Limited, a renowned shipbuilding and fabrication yard in Nigeria. This exploration provided valuable insights into the Navy’s infrastructure and technological capacities.
