This sentiment was expressed by former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Engr Gbenga Daniel.
According to Otunba Daniel, this constitutional resolution was long overdue.
He highlighted the critical role local governments play in being the closest administrative bodies to the grassroots, possessing the potential to directly impact the lives of the people through life-changing programmes and projects.
“President Tinubu and the Supreme Court have restored sanity to the Nigerian political space,” Daniel stated.
“This decision will ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the masses. Local government administrations will now have the capacity to initiate and execute projects that directly benefit their communities.”
Otunba Daniel praised President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
As a democrat and a progressive, Tinubu has shown significant capacity in advancing the struggle for democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
This decision to grant financial autonomy to local governments is seen as a strategic move to recalibrate the nation’s political and economic systems, providing tangible benefits to the average citizen.
“I salute Mr President for this global road map that will usher in true and practical development in our nation,” Daniel added.
He emphasised that this move will allow local governments to function more effectively, leading to enhanced service delivery and development at the grassroots level.
The Supreme Court’s ruling is a significant step in decentralising power and resources, ensuring that local governments can function independently and more efficiently.
This autonomy is expected to foster greater accountability and transparency, as local government officials will now be directly responsible for their financial management.
