Senators Daniel Olugbenga and Asuquo Ekpenyong have emerged as the top performers among first-time senators in the 10th Senate, each sponsoring 13 bills.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his finding comes from an analysis by OrderPaper that examines the contributions of first-time senators during the Senate’s inaugural year. They are followed closely by Senator Banigo Harry, representing Rivers West, with 11 sponsored bills.

The 10th Senate, with 68 new senators, has seen these newcomers making a significant impact.

First-time senators contributed 51.4% of the 475 bills submitted in the first year, showcasing a fresh wave of energy and ideas.

Senators Wasiu Sanni (Lagos Central), Nwoko Munir Nwoko (Delta North), and Tony Nwoye (Anambra North) each sponsored 10 bills, while Senators Saliu Mustapha (Kwara Central), Khalid Mustapha (Kaduna North), and Kaka Lawan (Borno Central) introduced 9 bills each. Senator Ndubueze Chiwuba (Imo North) followed with 8 bills.

Scorecard of the 10th New 03 640x773 1

OrderPaper’s analysis, part of its broader mission to promote legislative accountability, highlights the productivity of these new senators and marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The annual performance appraisals by OrderPaper have become key benchmarks for evaluating legislative effectiveness, enabling citizens to make informed judgments about their representatives.

While the newcomers have made notable contributions in terms of bill sponsorship, the true test will be in the quality and passage of these bills.

As the 10th Senate progresses, much attention will be on how these senators shape Nigeria’s legislative future.
