Shakira and Burna Boy make World Cup history as Dai Dai hits 100 million views

Shakira and Burna Boy have made World Cup history as their official 2026 anthem ‘Dai Dai’ surpasses 100 million YouTube views in just two weeks. The collaboration boosts global excitement ahead of the tournament

Colombian superstar Shakira and Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy have achieved a remarkable milestone as their official FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem, Dai Dai, surpassed 100 million views on YouTube in record time.

The music video, released on 23 May 2026, reached the impressive figure on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, generating massive global attention just days before the tournament opens across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

At 49, Shakira now stands as the most successful artist in World Cup musical history, having contributed anthems and performances to four editions of the tournament.

Her previous hits include the iconic Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) for the 2010 South Africa tournament, which has amassed over 4.5 billion views, and La La La for Brazil 2014.

The vibrant collaboration on Dai Dai blends Shakira’s Latin pop energy with Burna Boy’s Afrobeat rhythms, significantly enhancing the tournament’s appeal across Africa and beyond.

The track supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for children’s education and football opportunities worldwide.

Shakira has described her enduring connection with football as “unbreakable”, calling the World Cup a “magical” force capable of uniting people during challenging times.

She emphasised that the song carries an inspiring message for young people to chase their dreams despite obstacles.

The anthem’s rapid success sets the stage for a high-profile live performance when Shakira and Burna Boy take the stage at the World Cup opening ceremony on 11 June 2026 in Mexico City.

Shakira will later co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on 19 July alongside Madonna and BTS.

Fans and critics alike have praised the collaboration for its infectious energy and cultural fusion, positioning Dai Dai as one of the most anticipated World Cup anthems in recent memory.
