‘Shocking!’ Church singer devastated as pictures land on porn page (Photo)

A singer from Co Waterford recently received a huge shock when she realised photographs of her had been used on an adult website without her consent.

Kate O’Beirne is a well known singer, artist and vocal coach in the county.

She regularly sings at a local church, and she told the Waterford News & Star that she was “mortified” when friends alerted her to the fake profile that had stolen her pictures.

“I’ve heard of Facebook profiles being hacked and duplicated, but this was something far more serious,” Ms O’Beirne said. “This was a porn page and for anyone stumbling upon it, it looked as if it was mine.”

Ms O’Beirne has a number of online pages where she sells products such as jewellery and soaps.

The Famous Kate (@thefamouskate on Instagram and YouTube) is where she showcases her vocal talents and a copy of this page was used for the fake profile.

The hackers called it “Kate the Famouss”(with an extra ’s’).

“I’m self employed so I rely on my online presence for marketing,” Ms O’Beirne said. “I really don’t have a choice when it comes to my privacy settings… when you’re self employed, you need the exposure, albeit the right kind.”

The first image stolen was a simple one from her birthday party.

“My husband and my daughter and I had a little lockdown party for my birthday,” she said. “We got a takeaway and got dressed up for the laugh… to make us feel like we were on the town.”

In one photo, Ms O’Beirne posed on her couch in a dress she had chosen for the occasion.

“It’s a nice photo… I was feeling good… but it certainly wasn’t explicit or anything like that,” she said. “I was showing a bit of leg but no more than if someone was wearing a pair of shorts! God knows what they saw that made them think of setting up an 18+ porn page with it.”

Kate told the Waterford News & Star that she was mortified when she found the page.

This was used as the main picture for the 18+ account, while other pictures from her Instagram were also stolen.

Ms O’Beirne reported the page as soon as she was made aware of it while she also notified gardaí.

“I felt extremely violated,” she said. “All I could think of were the people who might find the page and think that it was actually me behind it.”

She was surprised when gardaí told her there was nothing that could be done about identity theft.

“Even worse still, they told me that it wasn’t even illegal,” she said. “My business won’t go anywhere if I have all my profiles hidden but it’s slightly disconcerting to know that my pics, or anyone else’s could be taken at any moment and used to promote porn sites.”

Lagos tow fine scandal raises outrage as motorists are asked to pay N100,000 into a private firm’s account, sparking concerns over transparency Q uestions have been raised following a growing Lagos tow fine scandal that exposed motorists being asked to pay hefty fines into a privately owned account. The controversy began when a Toyota Highlander without a number plate was seized and fined N100,000. Shockingly, the fine was directed into a Keystone Bank account belonging to Waoh Global Logistics Services, a private firm. The ticket, which referenced the Transport Sector Reform Law & Regulations 2018, contained glaring errors including the word “paid” misspelt as “pais.” No specific offence was listed on the document. Further scrutiny showed a revenue code (4080023), agency code (4390000) and a payment ID (C-1114875) inscribed, while the enforcement officer identified only as Afeez instructed the vehicle owner to “remove all valuables.” Investigations revealed Waoh Global Logistics Services was only incorporated on 9 October 2024 with RC 7992794, less than a year before this fine, raising serious transparency concerns.
