A powerful explosion struck a major gas transmission pipeline in Russia’s Kemerovo region on November 5, 2026, triggering a massive fire in the Topkinsky municipal district near the villages of Topki and Dedyuevo.
The incident was reportedly caused by depressurisation of the pipeline, according to local authorities. Videos circulating online showed intense flames and a towering column of smoke rising from the affected area.

Kemerovo Region Governor Ilya Seredyuk confirmed that emergency responders had extinguished the fire, while specialists continued working at the scene to assess the incident. No casualties were reported.
The explosion also affected gas pressure at the nearby Azot chemical plant, forcing the facility to temporarily reduce its production capacity.
Officials said there was no threat to the plant’s personnel or equipment and ruled out wider environmental danger.
They also assured residents that the incident would not result in interruptions to household gas supplies or heating.
The affected pipeline is part of the Nizhnevartovsk-Parabel-Kuzbass main gas transmission line, operated by Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk.
Governor Seredyuk said a response headquarters, led by his deputy, was coordinating activities at the site, with further updates expected as specialists completed their assessments.
The incident is the second major gas pipeline fire reported in Russia within a month.
On October 13, a section of the Central Asia-Centre gas pipeline system ruptured in the Penza region, sending flames high into the air before the affected section was isolated.
The causes of the two incidents remain under investigation. There has been no official confirmation that either incident involved external interference.

The latest explosion has drawn attention to the safety of Russia’s gas transmission infrastructure, particularly following two significant pipeline fires within a relatively short period.
