Tension reportedly arose at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday after African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore confronted a lawyer who allegedly referred to him as a “tout”.

A video circulating on social media showed the activist challenging the lawyer, identified as Yakubu, and demanding that he withdraw the remark.

Sowore questioned why the lawyer had addressed him in that manner, insisting that he had done nothing to warrant the alleged insult.

“Why did you call me a tout? What have I done to you? You have to withdraw that insult.

How can you say I am a tout? For what? For exercising my rights?” Sowore said.

He further criticised the lawyer for allegedly making the remark in a courtroom, arguing that legal practitioners should conduct themselves appropriately.

“You have no right to insult me. I don’t have any problem with you.

He is an idiot; he shouldn’t have insulted me in a courtroom. He’s a lawyer; he should know better,” he said.

Some of Sowore’s supporters were also seen in the video condemning the lawyer over the alleged comment.

The incident reportedly occurred before proceedings began in Sowore’s ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, where he faces allegations relating to cyberbullying President Bola Tinubu.

The case centres on an alleged social media post in which Sowore referred to the President as a “criminal” on his official account.

The reported courtroom exchange drew attention online, although the circumstances surrounding the alleged remark were not independently established in the supplied account.
