A horrific incident in Edo State leaves two dead as Spiro Odese kills father over a lack of food before being lynched by an angry community mob

A thirty-year-old man, Spiro Odese, reportedly killed his father, Friday Odese, on Sunday, 24 May 2026, following a heated domestic argument regarding a lack of food at their residence in Edo State.

The fatal altercation took place in the Ikhe-khe Uhumwenbho community, located within the Ewatto district of the Esan South East Local Government Area.

The deceased, a well-known local farmer in the Ewatto community, allegedly succumbed to injuries inflicted by his son during the dispute.

Local sources indicate that the confrontation escalated rapidly when the younger man grew infuriated by the response of the elder man concerning the scarcity of provisions in the household.

Tempers flared during the argument, leading the assailant to seize a cutlass and launch a brutal assault on the farmer, who died at the scene.

A female witness to the harrowing attack immediately raised the alarm, desperately calling on neighbours to intervene.

One neighbour who courageously attempted to rescue the elderly man was also savagely attacked, sustaining severe injuries in the process.

The intervening neighbour was subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital within the state, where the victim remains in an intensive care unit.

The horrific violence triggered immediate outrage among the local population, culminating in a swift and lethal reprisal.

An angry mob of youths from the community tracked down the suspect shortly after the incident and lynched him, with medical sources confirming his death a few hours later.

When contacted for an official statement regarding the double tragedy, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Eno Ikoedem, stated that officers attached to the Ewohimi Division had not yet formally briefed the command on the details of the development.
