The Chippa United goalkeeper was stretchered off in the 35th minute of his club’s South African Premier Soccer League fixture against Richards Bay on Tuesday night, sparking concern among fans and the Super Eagles coaching staff.
At 29, Nwabali has become a reliable figure between the posts for Nigeria, but he now faces a race against time to recover before the matches against Rwanda on September 6 and South Africa on September 10.
The Stanley Nwabali injury is a major setback, given that he was recently named in Nigeria’s 31-man provisional squad for the qualifiers.
In his potential absence, the responsibility may fall on fellow goalkeepers Adebayo Adeleye, Amas Obasogie, or Ebenezer Harcourt.
