Suleja truck crash Niger State claims lives of a woman and her grandson after brake failure sends truck into residential house in Make community

A tragic truck accident on Sunday morning has claimed the lives of a housewife and her 10-year-old grandson after a vehicle suffered brake failure and crashed into a residential building in Make community, on the outskirts of Suleja.

Fatal truck accident in Suleja, Niger State incident occurred around 7am when the truck, reportedly coming from the Minna axis en route Kaduna, lost control along the federal highway.

According to eyewitness accounts, the driver allegedly attempted to manage the situation by jumping out of the moving vehicle, leaving the truck’s assistant inside as it veered off the road and rammed into the house.

The impact killed Maryam Shuaibu and her grandson instantly, while another young girl from the family sustained injuries and is currently receiving care.

The crash sparked outrage in the community, with angry youths blocking the Suleja–Minna Road as well as routes leading to Dikko Junction, causing heavy traffic gridlock across the area.

Residents alleged that the same house had been struck by moving tankers on multiple occasions, blaming the repeated incidents on the poor condition of the federal highway.

Protesters also raised concerns over alleged lack of compensation for victims and property owners affected by such accidents in the area.

Niger State Commissioner for Transport, Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje, later arrived with a government delegation and appealed to the protesters to reopen the highway, which they eventually did around 3pm.
