In a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Waziri of Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, the council emphasised the importance of moon sighting in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The new moon of Sha’aban signifies the start of the month preceding Ramadan, aiding the Muslim Ummah in spiritual preparation for the holy month of fasting.

Muslims are encouraged to report any moon sightings to their nearest District or Village Head, who will forward the information to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for official confirmation.
