Yoruba leaders call on the Federal Government to remove Sunday Igboho from the wanted list, unfreeze his bank accounts, and release his assets

A coalition of Yoruba leaders has urged the Federal Government to remove Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, from the wanted list, arguing that the activist has not committed any crime.

The appeal was made during a press conference organized by the Yoruba Self-Determination Movement in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday.

Deputy Leader of the group, Opeoluwa Akinola, described Igboho’s ongoing restrictions as unjust and politically motivated.

He called on the government to unfreeze Igboho’s bank accounts, release his assets, and lift the travel and movement restrictions placed on him.

Akinola highlighted Igboho’s role in campaigning against the killings, kidnappings, and other atrocities committed against Yoruba citizens.

He criticized the Directorate of State Security for allegedly invading Igboho’s home, detaining relatives, and forcing the activist into exile, where he was imprisoned for months.

“The travails of Adeyemo, otherwise known as Sunday Igboho, who has selflessly campaigned against the killing, maiming, and kidnapping of Yoruba sons and daughters, must be revisited by this government,” Akinola stated.

He stressed that Igboho has not been found guilty of theft, robbery, kidnapping, or murder, while those allegedly committing such crimes against the Yoruba continue to roam freely.

Akinola also condemned the narrative claiming that “Lagos is No Man’s Land,” emphasizing the backlash it has generated among Yoruba people.

He pointed to the recent electoral victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as an affirmation of Yoruba ownership of Lagos.

The group concluded by reiterating its demand for the Federal Government to release Igboho’s assets, lift the restrictions on his bank accounts, and remove him from the wanted list.
