Sunny Ekpeson orders Edo council officials to wear Tinubu-branded caps to show loyalty and build grassroots support ahead of the 2027 elections

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Edo State, Sunny Ekpeson, has directed all 18 local government chairmen to ensure their council officials wear customised caps bearing President Bola Tinubu’s insignia during official meetings.

The instruction, announced on Saturday, follows an earlier directive from Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who on 16 October ordered members of his cabinet to publicly display loyalty to President Tinubu by wearing clothing emblazoned with his emblem.

Governor Okpebholo, who attributed his electoral victory to the president’s political support, said visible loyalty was a mark of gratitude.

“This could not have happened if we did not have a responsible president. We have done many elections here, and the major problem we had was that the president was not with us. But today, we say thank you,” he said.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Agbukor Lucky Apeakhuye, Ekpeson confirmed that the new dress directive extends to supervisory councillors, senior special assistants and special assistants across all local government areas.

He explained that the initiative was designed to demonstrate grassroots solidarity with the Tinubu administration and align Edo’s political structure with the national agenda.

“The directive covers all 18 local government chairmen,” Ekpeson stated. “Officials must wear customised caps featuring President Bola Tinubu’s insignia during official meetings at council secretariats.

The pledged 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu from Edo State must not remain a mere aspiration.”

The ALGON chairman described the move as a strategic step in strengthening loyalty to the president ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying such symbolic displays would help sustain political unity within the state.

“We must begin to build that momentum from the grassroots now,” he added. “This includes visible acts that reflect our political commitment.

A unified visual representation of support will promote stronger cohesion across the state.”

Observers say the directive further underscores the growing push for alignment between Edo’s local government leadership and the Tinubu-led administration, a development that could influence the state’s political dynamics as the next election approaches.
