The Super Eagles suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday, leaving Nigeria with just three points from their opening two Group L matches.

Nigeria were beaten at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau as goals from Franculino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló handed the hosts a convincing victory.

Franculino opened the scoring in the first half before Baldé doubled Guinea-Bissau’s advantage after the break. Djaló then completed the scoring in stoppage time to seal a 3-0 victory for the Djurtus.

The defeat came just four days after Nigeria began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo. George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored for the Super Eagles after Madagascar had taken an early lead.

The latest result leaves Guinea-Bissau at the top of Group L with six points from two matches, while Nigeria remain on three points. Madagascar have yet to register a point, while Tanzania also have three points.

Nigeria’s situation is particularly delicate because Tanzania, one of the hosts of the 2027 tournament, already have a guaranteed place at the finals. That means Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar are competing for the group’s remaining qualifying spot.
