Suspect rearrested after sex toys, porn found at home

Police have rearrested a suspect in connection with a recent abduction case, following the discovery of sex toys and pornographic material at his home.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar (pic) said the arrest, made yesterday, was to assist in the investigation after police discovered various sex toys, adult pornography and child sexual abuse material at the suspect’s residence in Kulai.

In a statement, he said the investigation is being conducted under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for accessing or possessing child sexual abuse material and Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene material.

A conviction under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both, while Section 292 of the Penal Code carries a maximum of three years’ jail, a fine, or both.

Comm Kumar also called on the public, especially parents, to continuously monitor their children’s activities, emotional development, as well as physical well-being to detect any signs of sexual abuse early and bring perpetrators to justice.

“The community needs to be aware of current crime trends and educate their children about the dangers, particularly on social media,” he said.

Comm Kumar added that any information regarding such incidents can be reported to the Johor police hotline at 019-279 2095 or the operations room at 07-221 2999.

Earlier, the remand order on the suspect was extended by six days after it expired on July 29.

The remand extension until yesterday was issued by magistrate Noorfazlin Hamdan, according to Bernama.

The investigation of the suspect is being conducted under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping, among others.
