Porn, betting sites recorded 162m Nigerian visitors in June – StatiSense

A recent report by global data and business intelligence platform StatiSense has revealed that Nigerian mobile users made over 162 million visits to porn and betting websites in June 2024.

The platform’s latest data, which highlights the top ten websites visited by Nigerians on mobile devices last month, shows a significant portion of this traffic is directed towards adult content and gambling sites.

According to a post shared by StatiSense on its official X page, the top visited websites included a mix of search engines, social media apps, and betting platforms. Notably, Xvideos and Xnxx, two adult sites, collectively received 80.18 million visits, ranking second and sixth respectively on the list.

In addition, Nigerian mobile users visited sporting websites 176.83 million times. Of these, 83.1 million visits were allocated to sports betting sites Sportybet and Bet9ja, which secured third and fourth places on the list.

Interestingly, despite the high traffic to these sites, major social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram did not make it into StatiSense’s top ten most visited websites by Nigerians for June 2024. Google and Facebook were also among the sites that featured prominently in the report.

See below the list of websites;

Top 10 — By Visitors:

  1. Google — 382.68M
  2. Xvideos — 52.02M
  3. Sportybet — 46.44M
  4. Bet9Ja — 36.7M
  5. Facebook — 30.86M
  6. Xnxx — 28.16M
  7. Youtube — 26.86M
  8. Goal — 18.43M
  9. Flashscore — 16.67M
  10. Livescore — 16.06M

Expressing his thoughts on the list, an x user, @Lagos Cinematographer wrote, “I have checked usa, many african and European countries, only nigeria has porn and betting sites on their list and even appeared more than once 😀. Inside this hardship, konji won finish una 😀”

In his own opinion, @ayinla oluwamayoma said, “Omooo, and to know more than 50% of the times Google was visited was to search for porn sites… This nation is gone 💔.”

Still reacting, @Maverick contributing his own quota to the discussion said, “This is a negative stride especially to Nigerians. However we seem to underrate how a good and working government affects our life personal choices. The extreme rate of unemployment, hunger and starvation has made people result to degenerative means of coping mechanisms.”

Another user @Jonathan Ugbomah said, “The gambling epidemic is real.
I have seen friends become homeless and penniless because of it and the sad part is a lot of us didn’t realize what was happening until it was too late.”

Still reacting, @ Oba Olusegun wrote,“I understand Xvideos being number 2 though—you can’t be going through Tinubu’s shegè and not DJ at the end of a stressful day, person fit craze.”
