HUSHPUPPI ARRESTED PS

Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi recently pleaded guilty to charges against him based on internet fraud. The Instagram celebrity who had claimed to be an estate developer is currently facing criminal charges in the United States for conspiracy to launder money obtained from business email compromise frauds and other scams, including schemes that defrauded a U.S. law firm of about $40M, illegally transferred $14.7M from a foreign financial institution and targeted to steal $124M from an English football club until his arrest in June 2020 and his extradition to the United States.

With the fear that criminals having access to social media, might has well not serve the purpose or reason they are in the correctional center at first. And that they might use it to gain access to breed and concoct other crimes. Ramon Abbas who is still awaiting is sentencing would be able to access his Instagram account after it was revealed that his account would not be taken down.

Despite the count charges and arrest an investigation carried out by Instagram declared that the fraudster is free to continue in the usage of his official account.

Saying that the multi-millionaire fraudster’s crime hasn’t violated any social media laws stating he does not fall under validation of account removal category.

Instagram said it had well-established processes with law enforcement and a policy on “inmate takedown requests” in place for prisoners active on social media.

Abbas has not posted on Instagram to his 2.5 million followers since June 2020.

But the company’s global team said he would be free to continue to use the site unless directed otherwise from law enforcement in the US, where he is awaiting sentencing.

Instagram said accounts are only usually closed if they represent dangerous organisations or individuals.

Although further evidence in phone and computer records contained more than 100,000 fraudulent files and the email addresses of nearly two million possible victims his account would not be scraped unless there was any further notice from the police.

After his arrest international police investigation uncovered almost $41 million in cash and 13 cars valued at about $6.8 million from Hushpuppi.

Despite pleading guilty to his crimes as revealed in court documents from April 2021, Abbas is yet to be imprisoned, so his account does not breach Instagram policies or community standards according to them.

The 37-year-old swindler pleaded guilty to crimes that netted profits of some $24 million from his victims and was arrested in a high-profile swoop by police at his luxury hotel apartment at the Palazzo Versace on Dubai Creek in 2020.

In one of his scams, he attempted to steal more than $1.1 million from a wealthy benefactor who wanted to fund a children’s school in Qatar.

Despite his crimes, Abbas remains free to post snippets of his new life behind bars from his Instagram account should he have access to a mobile device or computer.
