Nigerian star Tems wins her second Grammy at the 67th Recording Academy Awards, securing Best African Music Performance with Love Me Jeje

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igerian Afrobeats sensation Tems has won her second Grammy Award, triumphing in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Recording Academy Awards.

Her hit song Love Me Jeje outshone fierce competition from some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, solidifying her position as one of Africa’s most influential global music icons.

Tems’ victory marks a significant milestone in Grammy history, as she becomes the first Nigerian artist to claim the Best African Music Performance award.

The category, designed to recognise the continent’s rich musical diversity, featured heavyweight nominees, including Burna Boy, Asake, and Wizkid for their collaboration MMS, as well as Yemi Alade and Davido, who teamed up with Lojay on Chris Brown’s Sensational.

American singer Chris Brown was the only non-Afrobeats act in the category.

This latest win adds to Tems’ growing list of accolades. In 2022, she earned her first Grammy for her contribution to Wait for U, a global hit led by Drake and Future.

However, the 2025 ceremony marked a new milestone, as it was the first time she accepted a Grammy Award entirely for her own work.

Nominated in three categories on the night, Tems also vied for Best R&B Song and Best Global Music Album but did not secure wins in those categories.

Nonetheless, her Best African Music Performance win underscores her continued dominance and influence on the international stage.

With back-to-back Grammy success and a growing fanbase worldwide, Tems continues to break boundaries for Nigerian and African music.
