A new dawn may have finally birthed at the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) as the nation’s regulatory marketing body recently concluded the election of major officials into its governing Council albeit peacefully and digitally with mass participation by the rank and file across the country. Interestingly, Mr. Idy Enang has emerged the 1st Vice-President of the Institute.
Prior to the just concluded election, the body organised an online debate for individual aspirants and contestants to showcase their vision and idea for the Institute.
Top on contenders’ list for the 1st Vice-President position was Mr. Idy Enang, former CEO of Samsung West Africa, former Commercial Director of Cadbury and many other blue chip companies.
Dr. Kachi Onubogu, CEO of Frutta Juice and Services, one of the leading fruits drinks manufacturing outfits in Nigeria also contested. This was after he had served as Group Executive Director in the TGI Group. He has worked with Guinness Nigeria Plc before leaving for Promasidor Nigeria where he worked for several years as Commercial Director. He is tested and trusted as well.
Also in the race was Mrs. Ifeoma Emesiana Dike, a career Public Servant and Dr. Umar Mustapha, incumbent 1st Vice President who has a rich and veritable experience working in Corporations, marketing organizations and public service. Dr. Mustapha is a multi-disciplinary scholar with impeccable educational background as well as professional degree.
The position of 2nd Vice-President was unopposed with Mr. Chuka Eborah. However, the contest for the Council position was also a little fierce as five contestants jostled for 4 vacant seats. Contestants of the Council membership were in no mean order. They were, Messrs Babatunde Bewaji, Hope Gbagi, Walter Okafor, Dr. Peter Oriavwote and one Female Marketing Amazon, Mrs. Adenike Olufade, former Executive Director, Marketing at Nigeria Television Anthony (NTA).
For a better appreciation of what recently unraveled at NIMN, it would not be an out of place discussion to attribute the developments to its leadership ably led by Mr. Tony Agenmomen and exco.
The NIMN is the body for professionals engaged in marketing and related fields as marketing practitioners, sales and marketing directors, customer relationship managers, media planners, channel developers, creative directors and value builders among others.
The Institute was established by Act of the National Assembly no. 25 0f 2003 with a chartered status conferred on it, the responsibility to regulate and standardize marketing professional practice through the conduct of comprehensive professional examinations and certifications, training, retraining and consultancy services geared towards ensuring that members adopt professional approach to marketing and other related areas of marketing activities.
