Tinubu security promise fails as coordinated attacks across multiple states leave dozens dead, raising alarm over Nigeria’s worsening security situation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come under mounting scrutiny after a series of deadly attacks across multiple states followed his assurance to residents in Jos that recent violence would not recur, with new incidents raising concerns that the Tinubu security promise fails to reflect the realities on the ground.

Less than 24 hours after the President’s remarks at the Jos Plateau State airport on April 2, armed attackers struck Nyamgo Gyel in Jos South Local Government Area, leaving several people dead and intensifying fears among residents already shaken by earlier violence.

In Nasarawa State, communities in Akyawa and Udege Kasa were forced to flee following attacks by gunmen that claimed at least 11 lives.

Homes were reportedly set ablaze, with many families displaced and others still unaccounted for.

The wave of violence continued in Zamfara State, where approximately 150 people were abducted in coordinated raids on Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji communities, described by observers as one of the largest mass kidnappings in recent times.

On the same day, suspected militants attacked Chibok in Borno State, killing four security personnel and destroying property, further compounding the security challenges in the North-East.

In Benue State, Easter Sunday was marked by renewed violence, with more than 17 people reportedly killed in attacks that left communities devastated and several residents missing.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, armed assailants reportedly targeted worshippers in Kachia Local Government Area, killing individuals inside places of worship and abducting others in nearby communities.

The succession of attacks across different regions has intensified public concern and renewed debate over the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security architecture.

Analysts note that the scale and spread of incidents point to persistent gaps in intelligence, coordination and rapid response capabilities.

The developments have also sparked broader conversations about accountability and the gap between official assurances and lived realities in affected communities.

For many citizens, the recurring violence underscores a growing sense of vulnerability, with families displaced, livelihoods disrupted and trust in safety measures increasingly strained.

As insecurity continues to affect multiple parts of the country, calls are mounting for more decisive, coordinated and sustained action to address the underlying drivers of violence and restore public confidence in national security efforts.
