Toby Foyeh’s ‘Jalolo’: A Masterpiece from a Musical Virtuoso

Toby Foyeh, also known as Tokunbo Olowofoyeku, is a name that resonates deeply within the music industry. A British, Nigerian-American musician and guitarist, Toby’s journey began in London, England, where he was born to Nigerian parents. Today, he is based in the Washington, D.C. area of the US, spreading his unique blend of music that encompasses genres like Yoruba Traditional, Africa Jam, Afro Beat, Highlife, Pop, Rock, Funk, and Jazz.

Having studied music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music and Howard University, where he also earned a degree in film directing, Toby’s passion for music is evident in his work. His albums, such as “Here I Come in Nigeria,” “Jalolo,” “Lagos Ilu Eko,” and “Pirates of Africa,” showcase his versatility and talent. Notably, “Jalolo” and “Rain Dance” are standout tracks from his albums that have garnered significant attention.

Toby’s music videos have graced Nigerian Television for years, and with his band, Orchestra Africa, he has performed extensively across the United Kingdom, Europe, United States, Canada, Japan, and Africa. His commitment to modernizing Nigerian and African music is evident in his collaborations and projects with renowned artists like Jake Sollo, Saul Malinga, and Orlando Julius Ekemode.

Influenced by legends like Haruna Ishola, Victor Uwaifo, Fela Kuti, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and George Benson, Toby’s music is a harmonious blend of West African rhythms and Western melodies.
