An unidentified Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has reportedly been crushed to death by a truck opposite Mega Primary School along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The fatal incident occurred on Friday, October 9, 2026, according to a video shared by Akure-based radio station Crest FM, which showed residents gathering at the scene and shouting following the incident.

Eyewitnesses said the officer had attempted to intercept the truck, which was reportedly travelling in the fast lane, but was unable to stop it before the collision.
The officer was subsequently trapped beneath the trailer, leaving residents and some of his colleagues distressed at the scene.
Footage of the incident showed people gathering around the truck as the officer’s colleagues appeared shaken by what had happened.
However, the circumstances leading to the officer’s attempt to stop the vehicle remain unclear.
