The Birth Tourism Visa Ban announced by the United States government marks a significant tightening of immigration policy.

Effective immediately, foreign nationals whose primary intent for travel is to give birth in the U.S. will be denied visas.
According to a statement from the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, consular officers now have the authority to reject visa applications if they suspect birth tourism motives.
“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the statement read.
This move comes amid growing scrutiny of birth tourism schemes, where companies charge hefty fees to arrange travel and hospital care.
U.S. officials cite immigration abuse and healthcare strain as key reasons behind the crackdown.
Under the 14th Amendment, children born on U.S. soil automatically gain citizenship a constitutional provision now facing policy pressure.
