VDM candlelight procession Anambra held to honour slain businessman Ifesinachi Onyekere despite police warning. Youths demand urgent action on insecurity

VDM candlelight procession Anambra took center stage Tuesday as social media influencer Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM), defied police warnings to lead a peaceful march in memory of murdered entrepreneur Ifesinachi Onyekere, also known as Fish Magnet.

Onyekere, a respected business coach and owner of a popular fish farm, was tragically shot in his home on July 26, abducted in his own vehicle, and later found dead.

The case has shaken the community and reignited conversations around security in Anambra State.

Despite prior warnings from police, VDM led a large crowd through the streets of Awka, stopping at Arroma Junction before ending at Onyekere’s residence in Okpuno.

“This isn’t just about mourning Fish Magnet,” VDM said. “It’s about raising awareness and demanding urgent attention to the insecurity plaguing Anambra and Nigeria at large.”

Ironically, Police PRO SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who had earlier cautioned against the procession, was present at the event and acknowledged its peaceful conduct.

“This is not just about one man — it’s a show of collective will,” he said.

Ikenga added that police investigations are ongoing. The vehicle used in the crime has been recovered, and valuable leads from the victim’s family are being pursued.
