Presidency vows to prosecute VeryDarkMan over alleged fake Tinubu audio, as Bayo Onanuga condemns it as abuse of social media

The Presidency of Nigeria has vowed to take legal action against social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over allegations of sharing a fake audio recording purportedly linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, Nigeria.

The development followed claims circulating on social media that an AI-generated audio clip featured in a video associated with VeryDarkMan, allegedly portraying President Bola Tinubu saying insecurity in Nigeria would persist because citizens did not vote for him in 2023.

Reacting to the controversy, Presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga described the alleged action as a serious breach, insisting that VeryDarkMan would face the full weight of the law if found culpable.

“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu,” Onanuga wrote on his official X handle.

He further condemned the incident as an abuse of digital platforms, describing it as an “egregious abuse of the social media platform.”

However, reviewed indicated that the viral claim did not match any verified content posted by VeryDarkMan, raising questions over the authenticity of the circulating allegation.

The VeryDarkMan fake Tinubu audio controversy has since sparked mixed reactions online, with debates over misinformation, digital manipulation and accountability on social media platforms continuing to intensify.
