The videographer made the allegations in a social media post, claiming that his sister, who reportedly worked as Papaya’s personal assistant, had continued working without pay for more than three months after Papaya’s phone was allegedly stolen while in her custody during a movie premiere.
According to the videographer, he served as guarantor for his sister during her employment and became involved in the matter while attempting to intervene on her behalf.
In the post, the videographer alleged that despite repeated appeals, his sister had not received her salary and was being held responsible for the missing phone.
He further claimed that his sister earned a monthly salary of ₦120,000 and had continued working under difficult circumstances following the incident.
The videographer also alleged that when he approached Papaya’s family to plead for leniency, Papaya’s mother seized his mobile phone.
He claimed that he was physically assaulted during the encounter, resulting in a dislocated hand.
“My life is at risk,” the videographer wrote, adding that his mobile phone was essential to his work and livelihood.
The allegations have generated reactions on social media, with users calling for clarification from all parties involved and urging that the matter be handled through lawful channels.
As of the time of filing this report, Papaya had not publicly responded to the allegations. Independent verification of the claims was not immediately available.
The incident has sparked broader discussions online about workplace rights, employer-employee disputes and the treatment of personal assistants within the entertainment and influencer industry.
Observers have also called for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the alleged phone theft and the subsequent events described by the videographer.
