Wendy Osefo faces multiple fraud charges in Maryland with her husband Edward, accused of filing false theft reports worth over $200,000

Wendy Osefo fraud charges have sparked wide attention after the Nigerian-American reality TV star and academic was arrested alongside her husband, Edward Osefo, in Maryland, USA, on multiple fraud-related counts.

According to ABC News, Wendy, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac and her academic work at Johns Hopkins University, faces 16 charges, including seven felonies, while her husband Edward faces 18 charges, nine of which are felonies.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Westminster disclosed that the couple allegedly filed false theft reports, claiming their property had been stolen while they were on vacation in April 2024.

The report listed more than 80 luxury items—including jewellery, designer clothing, and shoes—valued at over $200,000.

However, investigators later found that over $20,000 worth of the reported items had been returned to stores by the couple themselves.

Both Wendy and Edward were arrested but subsequently released on $50,000 bond each as the investigation continues.

In a statement issued through their representative, the Osefos expressed gratitude for public support and confirmed they were home with their family.

“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are safely back home and in good spirits. They are grateful for the support from friends, fans, and colleagues,” the statement read.

“They look forward to their day in court and request privacy as they focus on their family and the legal proceedings ahead.”

Wendy Osefo, 40, is a professor of public policy and community engagement at Johns Hopkins University, a political commentator, and a philanthropist.

Her husband, Edward Osefo, is a real estate attorney and general counsel based in Washington, D.C.

The case has stirred conversation among fans and legal watchers alike, given the couple’s public profiles and the gravity of the allegations.
